A bad snowstorm hits a New York suburb and when Kyle can’t get ahold of his father, he and his friends head out in the hardest hit area to check on his well-being. Bad weather ends up being the least of their worries when some supernatural beast is revealed to be traveling through the storm, freezing folks with its touch and possessing telekinetic abilities. More than a decade ago an alien ship crashed in the area and was come across by hunters, who they swore to secrecy. They also confessed to being behind every natural disaster because humanity is a selfish species and now they’re here to observe. Well, the observing period is over and now the human race (or, at least the humans in this “district” shall be purified). The group of youthful dopes find Kyle’s dad dead and frozen solid in his home and, not wanting to leave the body alone as they wait for the police to arrive, Kyle makes the decision to stay there as the bad storm comes in and his friends stick with him. Bad choice, because the alien (who looks like Manimal) begins to thin out the herd. There’s also some crap going on in the background about some old bearded sad dude who has a dead kid and a wife that resents him. It’s… not exciting and takes up a hefty chunk of the time… or maybe it doesn’t, could have just felt like it did. You know what, a bunch of this movie may just feel longer than it is. Manimal (not his real name) gets plenty of screen time which is at least a little reassuring considering how much like Manimal he looks… although, me, my buddy Travis and the creative team behind Psych might be the only people who remember Manimal. Anyways, it comes to a close in 2023 with a snowpocalypse brought to life by narration and then a conversation that stretches on way longer than necessary.
