The Freeway Maniac (1989) (USA)

aka Breakdown/Motor Killer/Dat Mongoose Been Chattering Down in the Hollow Doogie

⭐️1/2

The opening sees a little kid named Arthur watch his mom have unconvincing sex and then he uses a big knife to slay mama and her fuck-buddy. Years later, buff Arthur escapes the nuthouse and wanders out into the world to cause more havoc. We then meet a cute blonde actress walking in on her boyfriend banging someone. She runs out and misses an appointment with her agent. After her car breaks down she comes across a creepy mechanic who tries to screw her, eventually Arthur drives into the place and attacks. Linda manages to escape and her notoriety (due to the close call) lands her a part in some low-budget science fiction flick. Arthur obsesses over the one that got away, escapes the nuthouse again and heads to the small patch of desert where Linda is filming. He gets himself a truck and goes about slaughtering anyone who gets in his way. After a carjacking, some wandering and a few murders, Arthur finally makes it to his destination and Linda tries to survive. The body count is large but the whole thing doesn’t offer much oddness to drag it above mediocrity. It’s never good when the fake movie within your real movie is far more interesting than anything on the screen.
