Classic monster bash finds Kong and Godzilla beating the shit out of each other in a fun and cheesy romp from the Shōwa era of Godzilla flicks. A pharmaceutical company is seeing dollar signs in the exploitation of a supposedly giant ape worshipped on the primitive island of Faro. They send over two men to get to the bottom of things and hopefully get their hands on the monster. Meanwhile, a U.N. submarine is monitoring strange readings from a radioactive iceberg in the Bering Sea. Guess who’s inside said glowing hunk of ice. That’s right! Godzilla is alive and well and now making a B-line towards Japan. Kong and the big green reptile share a destination and you better believe there is no room for cohabitation. Goofy fun takes Godzilla in a far lighter direction (they even made his roar a higher pitch) and opens the floodgates on many a monster kid memories. The human characters are fine and sometimes even likable but know to stay out of the limelight enough to make room for their giant costars. A helpful U.N. reporter holds the viewer’s hand and dumps so much info on ya, ya may go cross-eyed. It’s just a lighthearted good time.
