The shit stain on the shoe of social media influencers is social media pranksters. Since we already could not care less when it comes to the fate of influencers, you can imagine how worried we are when it comes to the lives of those annoying assholes that film near-sociopathic behavior for views. Christian Brand is one of these people and his poor fiancée Allison is usually the target of his pranks. They’re currently undergoing fertility treatment and Allison needs Chris to stop pranking her so she won’t be stressed. They head out to the countryside to stay at the peaceful renovated church a friend just purchased. They’re greeted by his buddy’s fiancé, David, who is definitely quirky and he lets them know that Jessie’s flight has been delayed so it’ll be just the three of them for a bit. I get the feeling David ain’t who he says he is. Allison has a history with the supernatural and ancestors who were well-respected mediums. She gets a bad vibe from the place. Shit’s weird with David and there’s definitely some tension between the engaged couple but booze and drugs bring everyone closer through a night of partying. After some lovemaking, Allison wakes up and has a pretty damn stellar supernatural encounter (remember, it’s in the blood). Chris wakes up the next day to find Allison and David missing and no heat on in the place. He discovers Allison standing buck-naked out in the middle of lawn in the cold winter weather. Obviously horrified, she lets him know they need to go but he writes it off as a bad high and goes looking for a fuse box. The realization lands that they’ve been knocked out longer than a night and their host has some sinister shit in store for them. Stolen phones and a missing car make an exit difficult, hidden cameras let them know they’re playing someone’s game and physical violence lets them know the stakes are higher than anything they’ve dealt with before. It pulls off the impossible task of making social media personalities likable and that was something I never thought I would fucking say. Nothing at all what I was expecting and I’m happy as hell for that. What a pleasant and slightly sadistic surprise.
