Entity (2025) (USA)

⭐️⭐️1/2

A strange workplace training tape for a shady organization that dabbles in the unknown offers up a look at the fate which befell three young filmmakers attempting to get to the bottom of extreme weirdness deep in the forests of New York. It’s a quaint local legend involving a creepy old man who was accused of collecting blood from the town’s children and banished to the woods where his mutilated body was supposedly discovered days later. Of course, he apparently carried on with his awful work after death. With people going missing, a serial killer claiming voices told him to murder children and a vanished documentary crew carrying on the centuries-old legend. This is the starting point of this interest for our trio of intrepid filmmakers as they look to unravel at least one of the mysteries involving the legend. They come across a shit-ton more and find themselves way outside their depth of understanding. Of course, this means frustration turns them into agitated idiots… but there may be something else going on too. The footage is occasionally interrupted by the lame training host and some truly horrendous animation just so you don’t forget you’re watching a training video for the clandestine but (judging by the production quality) under budgeted paranormal institution that tracks and collects “anomalies”. It’s kind of annoying but begrudgingly necessary to maintain the presentation of what we’re watching and builds a mythology that you can slap on any found footage flick from ambitious youngsters and build yourself a nice cheap and mildly intriguing franchise. Also, some of the bits are kind of funny. It works. Not all the time but it works enough.
