AI rendered art has come a long way in a very short time. I remember the first glimpses I had of it and the sinking feeling in my stomach that accompanied the images thanks to how deep down the uncanny valley they went. That offness is the perfect grounds for some solid horror and thankfully somebody far more talented than I (Sam Evenson, in this case) recognized the same fact. A struggling artist generates macabre images and recognizes the same disturbing woman showing up in all of them. The rabbit hole is open and Cody is jumping down. It’s a creepy legend gaining traction where this woman (the titular Mora) will inexplicably be rendered in any image with the right macabre prompts, showing up with the same scars and horrific physical features. Something that should be (at least at the time) impossible for AI to do. Now Cody is tracking down the origin of the image and making a name for himself as the guy who caught the “ghost in the machine”. He’s feeling desperate because now that AI is gaining popularity, there’s very little use for he and his talents. Against the concerns of his girlfriend, he marches on with his unsettling task. Naturally, things go very wrong because the AI entity is about to make contact with our hero. Twelve minutes. Twelve minutes is what Sam Everson uses to craft the perfect modern ghost story centered around a horrific specter and featuring some truly butt-clenching bits of horror and disgust. Twelve minutes.
