A Krasue is a kind of vampire-like spirit found in Southeast Asian folklore. As opposed to our boring-ass English type, the Krasue is a female whose head floats around with her internal organs hanging from the neck. She flies around feeding on the placenta of pregnant women. Her head must return to her body before the sun rises or she will be killed. After Bua Klee’s grandmother is fatally bludgeoned while flying around on the prowl for victims, she returns to her body and tells Bua Klee to take and wear her ring. Bua Klee obliges the dying woman’s wish and 100 days later, under the command of grandma’s ring-trapped spirit, she becomes a Krasue and does what those Krasue do. She is recognized immediately by the villagers but her devoted husband, Muang, refuses to believe that anything could be wrong with his beloved. They leave town to avoid trouble but trouble ends up finding them at every turn. So much goes down in this epic bizarro flick from Thailand. A love-struck woman bewitches Muang and gets him to marry her, a psychopathic dickhead attempts to rape Bua Klee and murder Muang, there’s a shootout, an embarrassed doctor/exorcist summons a demon to do his bidding with horrible results, another Krasue attempts to eat Bua Klee’s newborn son, a child is attacked with a sword, a giant deity watches over a fire-protected treasure, a bunch of people die and, of course, love conquers all. It’s a little over one hundred minutes long but fuck if I noticed. This is my kind of flick. Also, the opening credits kick ass.
