A truce between the colossal monsters remains intact. Kong rules over the Hollow Earth and Godzilla does the force of nature/world protector shit on the surface. Godzilla is also gathering up a bunch of power for… reasons. A team up becomes necessary when an ancient titan reemerges and threatens the safety of both the Earth below and above. I’m talking an end of the world scenario. While more dangerous monster monkeys return, attractive humans help deliver the exposition the audience would not be able to get through various growls and grunts. Super handsome Dan Stevens (who will always be welcome in this house thanks to Legion and is playing an eccentric monster vet here) joins the cast along with a returning Rebecca Hall (Monarch Kong expert), Brian Tyree Henry (paranoid podcaster) and Kaylee Hottie (mute friend of Kong and last of her people… for now). All of them giving a bunch to a movie where it’s not really needed… we don’t have to lie to each other, we’re here for monster brawls. It’s okay. We’re all just giant children. Anyways, the humans are brought together because a newly detected signal is raising some troubling questions below in Hollow Earth. Kong gets a tiny sidekick, Mothra gets some mythology building, Rachel House lends her fantastic presence to things, Kong gets a power glove and various beasts get the shit kicked out of ‘em. Dumb? Of course it is. Where have you been? Fun? Oh my lord, yes. It’s not as fun as the last two but it’ll do in a pinch. We ain’t reinventing the wheel but that climax had me grinning like a goddamn idiot. Now give me Biollante.
