⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Terrifying and slightly superior sequel to the damn fine original finds those lovable psychic exorcists heading to London to tackle the world famous Enfield haunting. Following Lorraine’s experience at the historical Amityville house with a horrific entity, she asks her husband Ed if they can avoid taking on further cases for a little bit. Their break is short-lived when the church brings a case their way. A struggling mother and her four children are being terrorized by the spirit of an old man who died in their house. The haunting is escalating quickly and the family can’t even find safety in the home of their sympathetic neighbors. The church wants the Warrens to go check it out and report back if it’s all legit and then the church will step in. Not wanting to leave the family in the lurch, they agree to look into things. Lorraine reveals that she had a vision of Ed’s untimely death and the only thing that frightens her more than a demonic creature is losing him. They brave it anyways and their investigation reveals that there is something far more sinister than anticipated festering within the house. A stellar cast and some genuine scares make for some fine popcorn thrills. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are as likable as ever as the Warrens and in a shocking turn, none of the kids annoy. Frances O’Connor is perfect as the mother running out of options and we get some small roles from Simon McBurney and the always welcome Franka Potente as the investigators already on the case when the Warren’s arrive. The specters of the old man and the spooky nun are wonderfully realized and The Crooked Man is still creepy even though the digital effects are somewhat shaky.
