The Earth Dies Screaming (1964) (UK)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fucking wonderful bit of sci-fi/horror from the UK finds an American test pilot facing the unthinkable. England has been invaded not by a foreign country but by an alien race. Poisonous gas took out a hefty chunk of the populace and now the few survivors are being hunted down by alien-controlled robots who have the nifty ability to reanimate human corpses to add to their army. Our hero organizes the few survivors he’s come across and they attempt to make it out of their situation alive. Good luck. The unknown threat is a problem but the other humans are also going to be an issue. The effective opening starts with a train accident and then features footage of the recently dead strewn out around the English countryside as our hero rolls into a small town on the hunt for equipment and any sign of life. From there it’s just one bad experience after the other and the audience barely gets time to focus on plot holes. Damn this is a tight little thriller with an excellent cast giving it their all. They also get their drink on and I appreciate that. I’d be useless and drunk in the same situation (Just call me Otis, Edgar is you nasty). With the budget of an episode of early Doctor Who and a threat that would fit just as comfortably terrorizing Jon Pertwee and Katy Manning, it all works if you don’t mind some budget-strained horror. Dennis Price steals the show as the standard issue slimy human making trouble for everyone and the movie fully utilizes any and every location they had access to.
