Igor and the Lunatics (1985) (USA)

⭐️⭐️⭐️

After sixteen years in prison, the leader of a cult joins up with a couple of his old followers to get some revenge on the town responsible for his incarceration. I mean, Paul the cult leader murdered people who attempted to leave his cult but you try telling an egomaniacal psychopath with godlike delusions that he’s in the wrong and you’ll probably end up very dead. Paul and his two followers (including the sadistic Igor) run around murdering at random until they come up against a former member of their cult and a small group of folks who refuse to put up with Paul’s shit. There’s some lovely dime-store gore and a whole bunch of incoherence thanks to shoddy editing. Joe Niola (who plays Igor) may just be one of finest awful actors I have beheld in trash cinema. His overacting becomes some kind of psychotronic art form as the film goes on. The fun outweighs the confusion and if you’re into grindhouse vibes, ya should get a kick out of it.
