The Invisible Agent (1942) (USA)

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Patriotic fun is the name of the game in this Universal “monster” flick with a bent towards the comedic. The grandson of the original invisible man is visited by some shady fellows who want the formula that made his grandpa unseeable. Luckily he escapes before they can torture it out of him, the US government asks him politely but he refuses. Well, Pearl Harbor happens and our mild-mannered hero decides to give up the secret to Uncle Sam under the condition he’s the one who takes the formula. Soon there’s an invisible man running around Berlin, working with an old carpenter and a hot blonde to stop those damn Ratzis and a small group of Japanese villains. Germans with New York accents and Peter Lorre as the main Asian villain may cause you to slap your forehead, but you’ll be smiling while you do it. Cedric Hardwicke is great as a Nazi higher-up and the special effects may lack in some areas but I’m still not tired of ‘em.
