⭐️⭐️
Needlessly artsy and smug UK creeper produces some positives but mostly fails as its tale of Eldritch horror unfolds. A nightmare-plagued teacher returns to his family estate after the passing of his mother. Ignoring her last wishes, he heads to the old haunt in hope of figuring out why the place drove him into a suicidal psychosis in his youth. There, he befriends an annoyingly quirky young woman who hangs around the property and they begin to dig a little deeper into his family history. A menacing owlman watches on and offers pretentious warnings as our hero slips into insanity and has disturbing nightmares involving his beautifully bearded best friend and a possible clue as to what the hell is playing out. An intriguing folklore and genuinely creepy location are pretty much wasted on a poorly acted and full-of-itself horror flick. A real missed opportunity.
