Khopdi: The Skull (1999) (India)

⭐️⭐️1/2

A gang of thugs break into a woman’s home at gunpoint, looking for a briefcase containing… something (no subs here so I did a lot of shrugging). Because these chubby idiots are pieces of shit, they decide to rape the woman and one of ‘em murders her. Her body is unceremoniously dumped in a shallow grave and would have been quickly forgotten if it weren’t for some supernatural vengeance. Yup. The ghost of the dead girl comes back and picks off the garbage humans responsible for her premature passing. A buff cop (introduced beating the ever-loving shit out of a purse snatcher) investigates the murdered murderers, falls in love and gets phone calls from the spirit tipping him off to the dead dickheads. The vengeful ghost just kind of looks like she fell asleep face first in a plate full of mashed potatoes when she isn’t taking the form of a cheap Halloween store skeleton decoration. There’s a horror film director (or maybe he’s just a fan) hanging around, creeping on pretty girls and doing spooky (goofy) things plus the usual toe-tapping songs popping up whenever they want to (including a rain-drenched number that may just be my favorite piece of musical magic to grace Bollywood). It’s cheaper than a Roger Corman birthday card and goes on much longer than it should but there’s enough of that Bollywood bizarreness to keep you a bit more entertained than bored.
