No Me Sigas (2025) (Mexico)

aka Don’t Follow Me

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Carla moves into a creepy-ass and mostly abandoned apartment building with an unsettling past (a dead actress, an earthquake and a fire that reduced a couple tenants to ashes) and documents a haunting (and fakes activity) to get herself some of that oh so precious social media fame. It seems to be going pretty well until she taps into the actual paranormal and invokes the wrath of a malicious entity. An incredibly effective opening unfortunately stumbles into a predictable back half one would come to expect from something produced by Blumhouse. It’s fine, I mean, I like comfort food as much as the next chubby midwesterner but the first hour is so well done it’s hard not to be let down. Luckily Karla Coronado can handle the heavy task of crafting a likable (and unstable) wannabe influencer in way over her head but willing to sacrifice a lot for fame. The atmospheric setting is one hell of an advantage and the shifting between found footage stylings and standard filming works to keep the viewer on unsteady feet. A limited cast (love interest Yankel Stevan and only “friend” Julia Marqueo… both social media personas) is great across the board, adding what they need to when it comes to our protagonist’s unhealthy obsession crumbling into a horrific supernatural influence and bigger picture that you’ll probably catch onto as soon as the seed is planted.
