Following a failed assassination in the Northeast Ukraine, a guilt-stricken Black Ops sniper named Jon and his partner Marco are on the run from a trio of pissed off Russians (one being a solid sniper of her own) looking for revenge. As he navigates the harsh and freezing environment, he comes to realize the enemy combatants may not be the worst thing out there hunting them. Disturbingly, Marco cannot hear nor see whatever supernatural nightmare is haunting Jon. As usual, extraction proves difficult for the two men. That’s why you never agree to go on any military mission backed by the CIA. Just a bad call. Anchored by an incredibly likable lead stuck in an increasingly dangerous situation, it’s easy to be enthralled in all the action. Snowy Maine stands in well for the chilly setting and the supernatural entity that may or may not be stalking our boys is well-realized. Hell, it may not be as intense when the question of “is it really out there?” is answered but it’s still a solid creature feature. In the negative column, it runs a bit too long and falters when the action comes back home. Still, color me impressed.
