Zoom Up: Rape Site (1979) (Japan)

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

A playboy tutor and the stepmother of one of his students journey to the site of a brutal rape/murder and get their infidelity on. Stepmom had already spurned his advances but a quick trip to the crime scene and talk of the rape gets her all hot and bothered. They witness rough sex turn into a murder (although this one seems a bit more accidental than the opening act of awfulness) and have to decide if they’re selfish enough to keep it a secret or expose their misdeeds by letting the police know they witnessed a crime. They choose the former, of course. A trip to the grocery store has the mother recognizing the manager as the man she witnessed commit the horrible act and gets her and her new fuck-buddy investigating the crimes. Unfortunately, this also makes them a target as the murders continue. The math tutor’s other lover is thinking of blackmailing the married woman to pay for a trip she wants to take, the grocery store manager has disturbing vagina-themed nightmares and the stepmother’s businessman husband is cold and boring… but who is the real sexual sadist?!? There’s plenty of guilt, plenty of butts and plenty of reasons to find yourself ready to give up on this planet and its inhabitants. The Nikkatsu erotic films of the 70’s carry a bit of infamy and this violent slice of sleaze wears that infamy with pinku pride. The opening abhorrent act is not easy to watch, as a young woman is brutally assaulted and it culminates with a discarded lightbulb shoved up her holiest of holes and shattered by the rapist stomping on her abdomen. That’s how they open the film and it’s a slap to the fucking face. It’s not incredibly graphic (I thank the lords of sleaze for that) but it doesn’t need to be. If the Pinku Eiga (in the broadest sense of the term, it just points to sexploitation films but with the addition of action and violence and it mutated into something more memorable than any softcore sex flick you’d see at a flea-pit theater in America or Europe) films of this particular time period were any indication of Japan and its people, then it’s quite obvious Japan was jam-packed with horny deviants and violent sex was the area’s norm. It’s nauseating but undeniably memorable and you just may need a hot shower after viewing… or a cold one if something is seriously wrong with you.
