Terror Trips (2021) (USA)

aka On Location

⭐️1/2

Six minimally irritating friends (just like real horror fanatics) start a business venture where they provide guided tours at the shooting locations of famous horror films. This leads to plenty of footage of the group green-screened in front of popular destinations. It’s going well until they journey to one spot where the horror ain’t movie magic and their lives are now forfeit. The movie Black Volga was based on a supposedly true story concerning child abductions possibly by the KGB with the purpose of medical experimentation. Yikes. With business booming, it’s off to Poland (by way of Ohio) they go with the idea to add European locations to their itinerary and expanding the business worldwide. They meet up with their local contact Alex and she has them park their car in her garage while they go camping and scouting the area. Alex warns them not to mention why they are there to any locals because the film ruined the town thanks to nobody wanting to work or provide work in a spot where kids were supposedly disappearing. The group is slightly shook (some more than others) but they carry on with their trek into the countryside. Although, the group agrees it’s not a spot they can use, so they’ll bail on it after a night of camping. The best laid plans… The next day they are one member short and what they don’t know is he is on an operating table in a makeshift operating room being sedated and having his organs harvested by Russians who look like models. Classic Poland. The group splits up to look for their lost friend and it seems like the black market organ game is about to get an increase in supply. Making the bold choice of presenting a group of doomed friends that seem to actually like each other gives this one a leg up on other indie horror flicks. Of course, as things get tense, the crew begins to bicker and it becomes another headache-inducer. I’m always a fan of Hannah Fierman showing up in my movies so you’ll get no complaints on that. The whole evil Russian-organ-smugglers thing ain’t exactly my kind of threat but that’s just me and I can’t really blame anything but myself. Horror references to better films (and also Hostel) are made, a non-exciting kick fight happens and the film just kind of ambles on until the folks who are left standing fight back against their Russian captors… who are also kinda fighting amongst themselves. A garbage ending adds a final insult… that includes the post credits bullshit.
