Bounty (2009) (USA)

⭐️⭐️⭐️

A team of bounty hunters are tracking down a dangerous fugitive and being recorded by a documentarian and his crew… lookin’ a whole lot like COPS. Of course, this time out the target they’re after was a scientist who got himself into something awful and that awfulness is about to make things very strange. Despite the fugitive’s warnings that they need to let him be for the security of the world, the team continues the hunt and when they come across a buck-naked woman covered in blood with a shower full of severed limbs she’s been gnawing on… we realize the likable group of tough guys should have probably listened to the scientist’s warnings. A bite to one of the bounty hunters causes a whole bunch of trouble and all hell breaks loose because there’s a new infection in town and it is spreading. This forces our bounty hunting hero and the brilliant fugitive to team up and attempt to prevent a real nightmare scenario. The fact that the probable infectee is the man’s son makes the strange bedfellows scenario believable. Johnny Alonso shows up and he’s been in a couple episodes of A Haunting so me and maybe three other middle-aged women are happy about that. Tom Proctor gets a rare lead role and he shows why he’s such a reliable actor, perfectly portraying the grizzled bounty hunter with a situation oh his hands well outside his already dangerous realm of comfort. It’s a neat story to have a found footage lens focused on and the cast is solid enough to feel as fleshed out as the time allows for. It still suffers from some drag and a few shaky performances but I give it a round of applause for setting things up on a science fiction basis. Not the best of the subgenre but far from the worst.
