Sinistre (1996) (USA)

aka Sinyster

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

A woman hatches a plan to ripoff her boss before he makes a deposit. She brings in her boyfriend Simon and a couple of his friends to help but it goes to hell when her boss doesn’t take the robbery lying down and opens fire on the men. One of them is injured and another one passes away from his wounds in the backseat of the getaway car. The two survivors head out to an abandoned old farmhouse in the middle of the woods and wait for the mastermind, Lisa. Simon buries his dead buddy, Rick, and Alan gets drunk as he slowly bleeds out. Of course the house harbors the evil spirit of an axe murderer and his victims and they are thrilled there’s some fresh meat crashing their crap-shack. The place is surrounded by glowing eyed demons, making escape difficult and Simon has to avoid the advances of an echo-voiced serial killer who has a plan for the poor man. Ambitious low-budget horror from Missouri features some excellent effects work and an abundance of cool ideas. The only issues hit in the audio and visual presentation but working with a budget, there’s only so much one can do. Some scenes are too dark and some audio is indecipherable, this didn’t really affect my enjoyment but I know some of ya folks may take issue with it. Worth tracking down.
