A dimwitted bellboy (come on, of course it’s everyone’s favorite goof Lou Costello) is the prime suspect in the murder of a criminal lawyer at the secluded Lost Caverns Hotel. The cranky lawyer got him fired for his buffoonery and he promised to get some revenge. He was also at the scene of the crime when he came to apologize to the already deceased curmudgeon. A sinister Swami (Karloff, naturally) is attempting to hypnotize Freddie the bellboy into a confession and suicide but his limited brain functionality is making that a tough task. A dangerous female is also working against our boy and a growing body count is adding to the stress. Bud Abbott is on hand as the hotel detective Casey Edwards who has his hands full with all the tomfoolery going on at his place of employment and a hotel with plenty of suspects carrying a history with the lawyer: He may know that his coworker Eddie ain’t capable of murder but that man is hard to keep out of trouble. An inspector lends a hand and Freddie is used to nab the actual killer. The usual wonderful line delivery and snappy dialogue is firing on all cylinders and if you enjoy the Abbott and Costello schtick you should be grinning like a goober… I was. Helps that Karloff is having a good time in the small role and there’s a good-lookin’ dame or two on hand. “Murdered? Impossible! We don’t permit murders in this hotel!”
