Fear Runs Silent (2000) (USA)

⭐️⭐️

Jumbled mess of a flick tries really hard to be more than a monster movie and trips itself up attempting to juggle the dangling plot threads. Kerry talks to her psychiatrist (Dan Lauria) about her nightmares which may be premonitions of doom. She and her friends are joining their biology teacher (the great Stacy Keach) on an extra credit excursion into the wilderness. While there, something begins stalking the students and it escalates rapidly as the mountain-dwelling wild men begin killing off the humans. This may all be in cute Kerry’s head as we are given flashes of her past encounter with her creepy stepfather, her maybe current confinement in a mental hospital and her talks with her psychiatrist. Is it some molestation-born mental illness? Is she actually a psychic? Is it all in her head? Fuck if I know by the time the credits role. Billy Dee Williams shows up as a sheriff in what amounts to an extended cameo and that lovely modern scream queen Cerina Vincent plays one of the students. It’s a very stupid affair that doesn’t seem to know what the hell it wants to be.
