Dr. Abel has created a serum which keeps a severed dog’s head alive well after death. Irene Sanders is a pretty young nurse who comes to Abel to see if he can cure her hunchback problem. Dr. Ood is an obvious fiend who joins Abel’s team with an interest in his miraculous “serum Z” and Irene’s cousin Dr. Burke is also there. Abel announces that he needs a heart transplant and has a donor ready for him. This donor unfortunately dies but Ood sees no issue and decides the best course of action is to carry on with the operation. Burke protests but Ood murders him in a confrontation and buries him out back with assistance of a brain damaged goober by the name of Bert. Abel doesn’t take to the dead man’s ticker but Ood ain’t about to let a little thing like death crush his dreams… especially when the good doctor Abel has a serum that can keep the man going after death, well, at least his head. Ood needs Abel because Ood has a new target of obsession in Irene and thinks he can successfully transplant her head from her imperfect body onto that of a stripper’s who he has a past with. Germans, man. They’ve always been like this. Abel ain’t happy about being a severed head connected to tubes but Ood has tunnel vision when it comes to whatever demented aspirations are knocking around his brain. Especially since Abel had the formula in his head and doesn’t feel like sharing it. With some missing folks and sinister shenanigans in the works, the police get involved. The head-to-stripper-bod transplant is a success but things like this have a tendency to spiral out of control and this won’t be bucking the trend. She returns to the strip club her body once called home and catches the eye of the owner/sculptor who immediately recognizes the figure of the dancer that passed away three months earlier… found mutilated, naturally. He convinces her to model for him and is shocked to find the dead girl’s exact beauty mark on the strange woman he’s convinced he’s met before. Irene panics and confronts Ood, sure that he murdered the poor girl for her hunchback operation. He shuts her up by introducing her to Dr. Abel’s head. Who advises her to run the fuck away before Ood’s madness consumes her. Burke’s body is discovered, Irene convinces Burt to help her escape, Ood reveals the cause of his intellectual insanity and there will be a few more corpses by the time those credits roll. Its got a sleazy vibe to it that I dig but it pulls it off without being belligerently exploitive which is bizarre. It’s cheap and more than a little silly but I’ve been called that too and I’m pretty fond of myself.
