The excellent Chris Bauer plays a corporate cog who monitors other calls in tech support and has been cursed with an almost supernatural level of hearing. His already impressive hearing was magnified into unprecedented territory by the death of his son, who perished from some rare medical condition. Larry can now hear conversations from hundreds of feet away but he is unable to turn this ability off. Frustration combines with grief and madness is on the horizon. Larry’s long-suffering wife can’t stand the quiet that her unstable husband needs so home offers no reprieve for his sensitive ears. Especially when you add on the already suffocating pressure of her being ready to try again at a family but Larry being unable to move on from the loss of their son. Drastic measures are taken and happy endings are pretty damn unlikely. The already proven Brad Anderson (the classic Session 9) utilizes a very strong lead to focus on the mental breakdown of a dour man in a horrible situation that keeps spiraling out into worse waters.
